As you know much is at stake for our faculty, staff, and students in this year’s election, including potential increased funding for the District and three Palomar College Governing Board members.
Facts
There is an important Palomar College Governing Board election this coming Tuesday: three Trustees out of five will be elected!
Our five Trustees each have four-year terms. Three are elected in an even-year election, and two are elected in the next even-year election This is designed to keep a balanced rotation going.
In 2019, our college moved from at-large voting to voting by Districts, meaning that the Trustees are no longer elected by the entire District population but rather by a smaller area in which they reside. That map is available here.
This year we elect Trustees for Districts 2, 3, and 4. Dr. Halcon from District 2 and Trustee Hensch from District 3 chose not to run in this election. Trustee Deerfield is running in District 2.
Districts 2 and 3 each have two candidates, District 4 has four candidates.
Among the eight running candidates, PFF has endorsed one for each District.
One of the new Board’s first priorities will be to hire a new College President.
In turn, the new College President will lead the College for the foreseeable future.
Our President will set the College’s priorities and greatly influence how money is spent at the College. Depending on whether Proposition 15 passes or not, we could see an additional $8.4 million at Palomar.
Bottom Line: Your vote matters to your job, to your campus colleagues, and to Palomar’s students! For more information on some of the Governing Board candidates and a perspective on Proposition 15, please scroll down our web site’s home page or reach out to anyone at PFF.
