Happy New Year!!
Misleading Narrative: The Faculty Union is being uncooperative with the District, refusing to negotiate regarding the District’s financial woes.
Facts:
In recent times a lack of transparency, honesty, and a constant changing leadership has made it difficult to have a productive dialogue.
However, PFF has always been willing to meet and work with the District to help the College.
On December 27th, the PFF Co-Presidents, along with leaders from CCE and the Faculty Senate, met with VPI (acting President) Jack Kahn. We discussed guiding principles regarding moving forward during this fiscal and leadership crisis.
There is another collaboration meeting scheduled for 1/6/20 which will include the same individuals plus additional administrators.
We completed negotiations on the 2019-22 contract before we went on winter break.
In order to do our due diligence regarding negotiations, we need reliable and timely data, which, so far, has not been forthcoming from the District. This has been our main sticking point.
Any negotiated items will be decided at the table, not through shared governance or ad hoc meetings.
We will be seeking input from all in our bargaining unit as we continue through this process.
Bottom Line: This is a difficult time at the District, but the PFF negotiating team is dedicated to work toward a solution that does the least harm and the most gain. We look forward to a more open and collaborative relationship.
