Negotiations Update 26 Sept 2024

Hello from your Negotiations Team! We are still in the early stages of our reopeners, but we are making steady progress as we continue to advocate for faculty across a range of important issues–class caps, benefit arrears, salary placement concerns, etc. We are addressing many issues that affect our working conditions and ensuring that faculty voices are heard every step of the way.

Ground Rules

  • Both parties agreed on the ground rules for our reopeners

  • Reopeners will be ready for the November governing board agenda, and we should be good to start bargaining in November

Office Hours Form

  • The District shared with us the new and improved Part-time Office Hours Form which reflects load instead of hours and is much easier to use.

Salary Placement

  • The District is still working on a counter to an MOU we presented for salary placement concerns with international transcripts.

  • We continue to advocate for other placement concerns.

Benefits Arrears for Part-time Faculty

  • The District has proposed a different way of collecting arrears. We are exploring the potential effects of this change to ensure no faculty are negatively affected with this change.

Noncredit Workload

  • The District assured us that the change for workload in ESL will be reversed until workload can be negotiated.

  • The District is working on an information request for us to verify noncredit workload changes over the past ten years.

Camera at Escondido Union

  • The District agreed to either cover the camera that is present in a working area at Escondido Union or explore other room options without a camera.
